Actually reading all of 2 Samuel 11 now. When this part of David's story is read, the lectionaries generally leave out the middle part, where you see what an upstanding guy Uriah is, and skip straight from David spying on Bathsheba to the part where David has Uriah murdered.

I guess it shouldn't really matter what sort of guy Uriah was; it's still a really awful thing to do.
