@George #GospelToday passage is heard by many unbelievers and I understand why it irks them. "Blessed are the poor." But there is much truth in it. I learned that poor, sad and broken people are teachable! They are looking for solutions to their problems/pain. In the world we often assume rich means you have everything and know everything. Life is great. "My life would be so much better if I had what you have."
I refer to Sirach 10:29-31 found only in Catholic Bibles.
"A man honored in poverty, how much more in wealth! And a man dishonored in wealth, how much more in poverty!
A person's character is what truly shines. And it is also how God is glorified.
Very true. I think often of America today and how so many have turned away from from Christ. Worldly wealth and prosperity is taken for granted as an "entitlement". Their focus is on collective power and who they wish to enthrone instead of on God. Wisdom is replaced by cowardice and conformance.
It can all vanish faster than they think and certainly won't end well for them.
Yet, regardless of what so many do and the collective harm they cause, we make our own choices - the same as always.
